PROSTATE
Male sex gland
The prostate is a gland that only men have. It is located below the bladder and surrounds the urethra, through which urine flows out of the bladder. The prostate produces a clear fluid that is mixed with sperm from the testicles during ejaculation. This fluid contains various substances important for sperm function, including enzymes, hormones and nutrients. The prostate fluid ensures that the sperm remain optimally mobile and protected from the acidic environment in the urethra. The prostate plays an important role in men’s reproduction and sexual health. The prostate undergoes a natural growth process throughout life. However, some men may experience a benign enlargement of the prostate called benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). This can cause problems with urination because the enlarged prostate can press on the urethra. However, it can also happen that the prostate degenerates and prostate cancer develops. It is advisable to carry out regular check-ups in order to identify and treat possible problems at an early stage.
General complaints
Frequent urination, a weak stream of urine, a constant urge to urinate or other symptoms do not have to be the case and can usually be remedied with simple diagnostics and therapies.
Benign enlarged prostate (BPH)
With increasing age, the prostate gland becomes larger and the prostate enlarges (benign prostatic hyperplasia, BPH).
Prostate cancer
The earlier the tumor is discovered, the higher the patient’s chances of recovery.
Robotic surgery
The Da Vinci® Surgical System is a robot-assisted surgical system used to perform minimally invasive operations.
